Seymour was originally established as Newell’s Station in 1783 by pioneer Samuel Newell. The area played an important role in early regional governance, as the first court of Sevier County in the State of Franklin was held there in 1785. During the 19th century, the community became known as Trundles Crossroads due to its location at a key transportation junction.

The name Seymour was adopted after the completion of the Knoxville, Sevierville and Eastern Railway in 1909, honoring the railroad’s chief engineer, Charles Seymour. Today, Seymour maintains its historical roots while functioning as a growing suburban and commuter community within eastern Tennessee.
